Alpine
Ski Alpin Canada
On
behalf of the athletes and coaches of the Canadian
Alpine Ski Team, may I extend our thanks for considering
participation in the Alpine Canada Alpin Podium
Club.
For
the past decade, the Podium Club has been an important
step for young Canadian ski racers from coast
to coast. Founded in 1995, nearly every member
of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team was supported
by this initiative. We are proud that Podium Club
beneficiaries now include a growing list of World
Championship and World Cup medalists: Allison
Forsyth, Genevieve Simard, Erik Guay, Emily Brydon
and Francois Bourque.
Funds
from the Podium Club are targeted to support the
Canadian Alpine Ski Team Development Team, including
athletes attending the World Junior Ski Championships.
This event is a key indicator of future talent
and Canada is proud to have captured 12 medals
in the past three years, including a five-medal
performance in the 2005 Championship. And we are
keenly looking forward to hosting the world at
the 2006 FIS Alpine Ski World Junior Championships
in Canada at le Massif/Mt. Ste. Anne February
28 to March 8.
This
year, the growing membership of the Podium Club
enabled Alpine Canada Alpin to extend the Development
Group to include 18 athletes, of which 12 have
been named to the 2005-06 Canadian Team. It is
our intent to maintain this approach, to deepen
our talent pool as we begin to set our sights
on 2010.
The
World Cup wins of Thomas Grandi last winter have
galvanized Canadian ski racing. There is energy
and enthusiasm across the country. Our goal is
to maintain this momentum and to ensure we deliver
the human, technical and financial resources to
our athletes to ensure Canada remains competitive
today, tomorrow and well into the future.
There
is still a lot of work to do, but thanks to your
support Canadian ski racing is moving forward
assertively on the world stage. Please consider
becoming part of the Team that supports our athletes
and inspires young Canadians to relentlessly pursue
excellence.
